Election Duties

In view of ensuing general elections it is observed that at some places our DOs are being or may be deputed on election duties of longer terms like 10 days, 20 days or even more than a month too. If a DO has been asked to go on one or two days election duty, it is understandable, but such long term duties will have bad impact on our jobs.

We advise our members who have received or may receive orders for such long term election duties to write a letter to their SDMs through proper channel. In this letter they should narrate all the difficulties/problems/adverse impact they may face related to appraisals, disincentives/termination under Spl. Rules, eligibility for vehicle advance, promotion, etc. Further in the letter it should be pointed out that the post of Development Officers is a marketing post and they fore front marketiers of LIC. Their long term absence in the market due to election duties will badly affect LIC's marketing activities and market share too. The letter will conclude with request for relaxation in work norms and various eligibility criteria, and will be attached with the election duty orders received. Further through the letter the SDMs are to be requested to take up the matter with election commission and constituency level Election Officers in order to bring into their notice about the typical nature of Development Officers' role in LIC's marketing process and to convince the Election Officers for not alloting long term election duties to Development Officers.

After submission of such letters by the concerned DOs, the Divisional Secretaries will take up the matter with the SDMs and will ensure that all SDMs and BMs/SBMs recommend for such relaxations to the higher offices as well as they will take up the matter with election commission and constituency level Election Officers for freeing Development Officers from long term election duties.
